Clinical Supervision

At the Play Therapy Centre, we offer clinical supervision in Dubai and worldwide, provided by Gemma Hookins, an approved Certified Clinical Supervisor with Play Therapy UK and Play Therapy International.
What is Clinical Supervision?

Supervision serves two primary functions: it is both educational and supportive.
Educational Function: Supervision provides a dedicated space for supervisees to reflect on their work's content and process regularly. It fosters the development of skills and a deeper understanding of the work, bridging the gap between theory and practice. Through this reflective process, supervisees learn to adapt their therapeutic approaches to suit children at various developmental stages and have opportunities to think creatively and develop new ideas.

Supportive Function: Supervision offers validation for the supervisee both as an individual and a therapist. It helps them plan and effectively utilize their personal and professional resources while providing constructive feedback that is both positive and critical. It also creates a safe space to reflect on and clarify emotions and reactions evoked by their work, ensuring that the supervisor can be accountable for the quality and monitoring of the work with children. Additionally, a clear contract outlining the duration, responsibilities, and fees is essential for every supervisory relationship.

What is Creative Supervision?

Creative supervision is an approach to supervision that incorporates creative and expressive techniques to enhance the supervisee's reflective practice, insight, and professional development. It goes beyond traditional verbal methods by using tools such as art, music, movement, storytelling, role-play, and other creative activities to explore the therapeutic process, client dynamics, and the supervisee's feelings and reactions.
